VON Mexico hits the sweet spot.
VON Mexico took place in association with Expocom, which is the largest IT show in Mexico.
The conference was attended by a great mix of local Enterprise customers and Latin American carriers.
The Mexican market which has been heavily regulated is opening up to enable some carrier competition. Mexico is making moves, but the regulators are treating regulation from the perspective of managing carrier’s so an Internet perspective was welcome.
At the luncheon featuring Henry Sinnreich and Jeff Pulver, the discussion centered around the use of peer to peer technology was bringing to the IP Communications revolution. The discussion was about the lessons from the peering capabilities that led to Skype and how others can capitalize on it in the future.
Additionally, the use of WiMax for voice services is being implemented for the densely populated Mexico city and the remote locations in the state of Durango.
For enterprises, the demand for competitive solutions that support the needs of the business was apparent. Enterprises were looking not only for Return on Investment [ROI] on their internal costs, but also for services that support their needs from carriers.
Many Latin American carriers were not only looking for partners and vendors, but also for insight as to how to find the immediate benefits of VoIP based solutions.
VON Mexico showed all the signs of a market on the verge of exploding and it will be a pleasure to return next year to document the recent changes and new opportunities ahead.
