General Session: Service Providers' Perspective on Content Delivery

In the world where Content is becoming a key player, what are the Service Providers strategies to cope with ever increasing demands on traffic capacity and features and variety of services? What is the new role of service providers with respect to Content Providers and Publishers? What is Quality of Experience (QoE) – a catch phrase or near term reality? Is there a winning strategy in a “quad play” game? Are the issues facing Service Providers today are different across geographic boundaries?



Andrea Basso, Principal Investigator, AT&T Labs

Dr. Andrea Basso serves as Principal Investigator in AT&T Labs - Research, New Jersey USA.. In previous positions he served as Technical Director and Chief Architect in NMS Communications. Dr. Basso has more than fifteen years of expertise of research and development in multimedia communications systems and services, including speech and video coding, media adaptation, multimedia delivery for broadband and wireless networks, caching, scalability and interworking aspects of multimedia. Dr. Basso has significant expertise in communications protocols for media delivery and he is involved in the development of standards in several international bodies including IETF, ISO/MPEG, ITU-T and IMTC. Earlier he held academic senior positions in research and development at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Dr. Basso has been Visiting Scientist at Stanford University, Palo Alto CA (USA), and IRST (Italy). Dr. Basso holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and a Master degree from University of Trieste, Italy. As adjunct associate professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria, Canada Dr. Basso is author or co-author of more than 60 publications and 3 books in the area of video processing and networked multimedia services and holds 12 patents.



Barlow Keener, Attorney, Keener Law Group

Barlow Keener is a telecom attorney with Keener Law Group. He has extensive experience in telecommunications, internet, and entertainment law. He helps clients in the wireless, video on the internet, VoIP, and telecommunications industries. Prior to Keener Law Group, Barlow served as CEO and Legal Counsel for a regional facilities-based CLEC in New England. He was instrumental in implementing strategic partnerships and designing the network. He also served General Attorney at CSA, Inc. an international consumer marketing company using direct-to-the-consumer video advertisements on cable and network television. He also headed up a telecommunications startup in Central Europe, Keener Kereskeldmi, Kft., focused on providing telephone service in rural Hungary and Poland.

Barlow started his career in telecommunications as a General Attorney with BellSouth Telecommunications (now AT&T) where he focused on regulatory, contract, and employment law. He has a JD from Emory University and BA from the University of the South.



Don Price, Director Product Management Converged Communication Division, Avaya

Experienced IT and telecommunications CTO today Don is active in strategic planning and technology strategies at Avaya with concentration on communications based SOA adoption in the enterprise. Previous he has successfully founded multiple new technology based business ventures sponsored by Texaco, IBM, Amadeus, Lotus, and Avaya. He has also chaired numerous standards initiatives around electronic messaging, collaboration, and telecommunications infrastructure.
