NetScout to Buy Network General

NetScout Systems Inc. said Thursday it will buy Network General Corp. for $205 million.

The deal will be paid for with $50 million cash, 6 million of NetScout stock and $100 million of debt financing, which the company said it will obtain from affiliates of Silver Lake and TPG or third-party financing sources.

Westford, Mass.-based NetScout makes advanced network and service assurance platforms. Network General makes application and network management hardware and software.

Once the transaction closes, Networkl General employees will join NetScout. The deal faces customary approvals and is expected to close in November.
