Taking an entirely new approach to a challenging problem that can affect voice quality, Packet Design has introduced a new system for monitoring the performance of an IP network. The new Packet Design product deals with the fact that IP network operators do not know for sure at any given moment which route a packet is taking. Unlike MPLS it does not set up specific routes through an IP network. The new product monitors the control plane of a network and builds a record through time of all routing events and changes to the routing table. The information is then presented to an operator in a way that gives several different views of the logical routes within a system. Operators can pinpoint even momentary episodes were routing causes packet delay or jitter.
