Adding to its list of compatible mobile devices, service provider 8X8 Inc. (EGHT) says its MobileTalk service will now run on popular, new BlackBerry models including the Storm and the Bold. The service will also be available on smartphones running the Android operating system from Google, such as T-Mobile’s G1.
Running over 8x8’s IP network, MobileTalk is a downloadable software application that runs on phones using the Windows Mobile, Palm, or Symbian platforms as well as the iPhone from Apple, and now BlackBerry from Research in Motion. The service enables low-cost international calling including 1 cent per minute to China, 4 cents to the UK and 6 cents to India.
Based in Santa Clara, Calif., 8X8 reported revenue for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2008, of $16.2 million, up slightly from the same period the year before but down from $16.4 million the previous quarter.
