Ecuity Launches Nationwide VoIP Services

12/30/2004
Ecuity Inc., a competitive provider of voice services in the northwestern United States, has launched a nationwide residential VoIP service called V-Tone Home. V-Tone Home is part of the V-Tone VoIP suite, which includes business and residential services.

Although the service is scheduled to launch Jan. 3, Ecuity did not provide pricing for its service plans, which include a standard range of calling features, such as voice mail, caller ID, call blocking, call forwarding and three-way calling. The packages include unlimited calls anywhere in the continental United States.

The new services includes a soft phone, called Smart Call software, that can be used to extend V-Tone to laptops or pocket PC-compatible cell phones and PDAs. The soft phone currently is available for download from the company's Web site. Calls among Small Call users are free.

The Ecuity service was recently adopted by Ottawa Wireless, a wireless ISP that has built mesh 802.11 networks in Grand Haven, Mich., a resort city on Lake Michigan, and Rio Rancho, N.M., an Albuquerque suburb. The networks are designed to support VoIP, which will be offered by reselling the Ecuity service.
