BroadSoft Says It Will Purchase Sylantro

Confirming a move that has been reported earlier, BroadSoft, Inc. said it has acquired Sylantro Systems for terms that were undisclosed. The acquisition creates a dominant provider of VoIP applications to telecom service providers: Customers of the combined enterprise include Sprint Nextel Corp. (S), Verizon (VZ), AT&T (T), Qwest (Q), Swisscom (SCMN), China Netcom (CN), and Singtel (SI).

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In August, BroadSoft acquired Genband’s M6 application server business, significantly expanding its customer base. Also last summer, the company released an application-development platform called Xtended, where developers can create voice mash-ups within popular business and consumer applications such as Salesforce.com and Facebook.

While it recently announced layoffs, 10-year-old BroadSoft says that its annual revenue has grown more than 1,000 percent in the last five years. Among the assets it gains with the Sylantro purchase is the Synergy server platform, which is being used by AT&T for its U-verse service.
