European Union to Carriers: VoIP Could be Mandatory

04/13/2009

VoIP might soon become mandatory for European carriers to run on their cellular networks. A German newspaper reports that legislation is in the works that would that would open smartphones to VoIP technology.

Individual countries in Europe are in charge of deciding what Internet services should be allowed, but the EU is concerned that the big carriers wield too much undue pressure on the markets.
