Miami Airport Gets Packetized Video

11/11/2008

You can run but you can’t hide: not at the Miami International Airport, anyway. That’s thanks to its new live high-speed IP video surveillance system.

A full 500 cameras have been synchronized with two-way audio intercoms (presumably so security can taunt the bad guys as they futilely run through the concourse), and the system supports packet video and audio recording.

The information is linked to security kiosks throughout the airport, which sees more than 15 million travelers each year.

The airport relied on Ericsson Federal, the government integration arm of vendor Ericsson Inc., to get the job done.
