Microsoft Office for iPhone Coming Soon?

04/04/2009

Being able to tweak a PowerPoint presentation while on the train? Typing up some edits to a memo at the doctor’s office? These productivity joys and more may soon be available to Apple iPhone users if a hint dropped by a Microsoft Corp. executive is to be taken at face value.

Speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo, Stephen Elop, president of Microsoft’s business division, said that Microsoft Office is "not yet" near, but "keep watching."

He also mentioned that a cloud-based version of Office is on its way. The software giant has announced previously that it’s working on Web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, which will run in Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox—and therefore can be accessed via the iPhone’s browser.
