Mobile Video Provider Mobix Acquired by SeaChange

Just when you thought video-on-demand (VOD) was a content library only to be accessed via your digital TVs, SeaChange International Inc. (SEAC) has decided to take the popular feature to mobile devices, with advertising.

The VOD systems vendor today announced that its on-demand subsidiary has purchased Mobix Interactive, a provider of mobile video and TV services in Europe, Middle East and African mobile markets.

The VOD content viewing model has proven itself over and over when it comes to an alternative to appointment TV, by offering new episodes of some TV series the very next day. That’s in addition to free and pay movie libraries.

That said, expanding VOD to wireless devices and applying ad models seems to be the next logical step.
