tw telecom inc. (TWTC) stocks closed up 1.55 percent on Monday as the company reported a second-quarter profit of $5.9 million, up from a loss of $3.2 million a year earlier. Sales increased 3.8 percent to $301.1 million, slightly more than what analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had expected. Data and Internet services showed the most growth; they rose 19 percent. Network and voice services, on the other hand, dropped 6 percent and 1 percent, respectively. “This is no small feat in this economy, and points to our simultaneous strong performance and ongoing strategic positioning,” Larissa Herda, chairman, CEO and president of tw telecom, said in a prepared statement.
