Twitter Now Open to Online Advertising

Microblogging Site Revises Terms of Service

09/11/2009

Microblogging site Twitter now allows advertising.

Founder Biz Stone announced the change to the venture capital-backed company’s terms of service in his blog on Thursday.

Twitter has been searching for ways to make money as it attracts more than 45 million visitors every month. Online advertising has proven a viable way for a site to make money while keeping a service free to consumers.

It’ll be interesting to see how much advertising Twitter draws. Google Inc. has watched its online advertising revenue dwindle during the recession, and as Internet surfers become somewhat immune to ads flashing across their screens.
