Whitman to Go From eBay to Governor’s Office?

Could Meg Whitman be just the person to get California out of its budget crisis?

The eBay CEO is rumored to be preparing to run for governor of the Golden State since two-term guvenator Ahnold can’t run again.

Now, we could make a number of jokes here. California is in deep financial you-know-what. Maybe Whitman could auction off the state’s assets (like a jet, perhaps, à la Sarah Palin??). Maybe she could make all state employees use Skype and put that disastrous takeover to some good use.

Anyway, the rumors are rampant as Whitman resigns from various corporate boards because she reportedly doesn’t want those commitments to interfere with campaigning. Whitman, as you’ll recall, served as one of presidential hopeful John McCain’s tech advisers, although he reportedly ignored her advice to embrace a pro-net neutrality position.
